We purchased a Vitek Mass Spec (MS) unit for microbial identification in our food microbiology lab. We use it routinely for species confirmation of our QC strains and as an endpoint for other culture and biochemical tests. We are starting to implement the instrument more in our routine testing. There are some comparisons available in the literature that are worth checking out.
