Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA (10 September 2013) — The Program Committee of the 59th ISA Analysis Division Symposium has issued a Call for Papers inviting abstracts for presentation consideration at the conference, which will be held 4-8 May 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.
The ISA Analysis Division Symposium is recognized worldwide as the premier international forum for introducing and discussing new and innovative analytical techniques, developments and applications in the analytical sciences.
Papers for acceptance should address topics in process and laboratory analysis, including methods, applications, hardware, software, systems, operations and maintenance. Subject content may concern technology in development or technology applied in industry practices. Proceedings will be marketed and sold globally. An International Standard Book Number (ISBN) will be assigned to them.

“The primary interest of the ISA Analysis Division lies in the application of process analytical technology, and we fully expect that attendees will gain a fuller awareness about how to properly select, install and maintain process analyzers,” explains Michael W. Chaney, CAP, project manager at LyondellBasell in Morris, Illinois, and Technical Program Chairman of the 59th ISA Analysis Division Symposium. “We are very eager to learn about new technologies and methods to implement or maintain process analyzers that would benefit the end user, vendor or the EPC (engineering procurement company). Our symposium program will appeal to many industries that use process analytics, and not only the oil and gas industry.”
All papers are peer reviewed to conform, or to be modified to conform, to ISA Analysis Division and ISA format, content and quality guidelines. The submission deadline for papers, which must not be product- or company-specific in nature, is 20 December 2013. “We have many vendor companies that present or sponsor in some fashion at the symposium each year, and our attendees appreciate that,” he says. “One theme that is generating growing interest is workforce planning. We are encouraging vendors to provide new tools and smarter analyzers that need less support, and EPCs with smarter networks that can lower the cost of ownership designs. End users want to learn to do more with less while developing their new people.”
Outside of the technical program, Chaney says next year’s ISA Analysis Division Symposium will offer three training courses:
*Fundamentals of Process Analysis, an eight-hour introductory training class targeting newer professionals in the analytical field.
*Advanced Process Analysis, an expert-led class focusing on specialized training for experienced professionals.
*Vendor Product Training, a class conducted by an analyzer manufacturer on specific models and applications available for industrial use.
Chaney, an ISA Certified Automation Professional® (CAP®), leads control systems and process analytics capital projects at LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest polymers, petrochemicals and fuels companies.
A former adjunct faculty member within the Automation Systems Department at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Illinois, Chaney specializes in developing and leading capital projects for DCS, SIS and process analyzer control systems. He is a past director of the ISA Analysis Division.
