Olympus BXiS® Industrial Microscope System Streamlines Workflow, Offers Flexibility for Future Applications

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., July 12, 2011 –Olympus has introduced the BXiS microscope system, which streamlines industrial inspection and measurement workflows while providing accurate, actionable data with just a few clicks. The BXiS, the latest in a long line of ergonomic, high-performance Olympus industrial microscopes, offers flexibly integrated digital imaging solutions that fit the widest variety of applications from research and development to the manufacture of materials, semiconductors and electronic parts. Its Olympus Stream® image analysis software provides scalable, accurate, integrated operation from basic image capture to image processing, report generation and data management.

The BXiS integrated system solution includes microscope hardware designed to be combined with a digital camera and Olympus Stream software to help the user efficiently manage the entire imaging process from capture to reporting and archiving. Its easy-to-use, dynamic interface guides the user effortlessly through the short steps of image adjustment, capture and measurement, report creation, databasing/archiving and final output. Users can set up individualized window layouts to suit their own workflows. Adding a motorized nosepiece or specially coded manual nosepiece allows the BXiS to update objective changes instantly, providing automatic magnification readouts and accurately adjusting the scale bar and measuring results.

There are five different versions of the microscope frame customized to specific applications, and each is designed to work with a host of components to accommodate the broadest overall range of solutions. More than 150 Olympus UIS2 objective lenses are available to accommodate brightfield, darkfield, polarized light, infrared, differential interference contrast (DIC) and fluorescence imaging techniques, and a variety of high-performance cameras complete the system.

To facilitate management and sharing of images obtained through the microscope, the system supports the latest IT environments, including the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows® 7, along with Microsoft Office 2010. It also is compatible with professional database systems including Microsoft SQL Server® Express. In addition, Enterprise, the system’s highest-level software, allows the support of Active Directory user groups within an Oracle server. Additional security is ensured when using the optional Secure File Repository module, as only authorized database clients can open or view all documents. These features will support expandability for future applications.
