Supercritical Fluid Extraction System (SFE Systems)

Supercritical fluid extraction systems utilize a supercritical fluid, typically CO2, as the mobile phase solvent to perform extractions. SFE systems are commonly used in laboratories for several reasons including selectivity, reduction of residual solvents, and their rapid extraction times. Supercritical fluid extraction also offers the benefit of performing extractions at low temperatures in the absence of oxygen, benefiting labs with analysis needs that are temperature sensitive or easily oxidized. Certain assays may require a co-solvent for SFE analysis, however, most extractions can be completed using only the supercritical fluid. When comparing supercritical fluid extraction systems compare the detector types, co-solvent compatibility, and analysis times to ensure a high throughput instrument that can handle any extractions necessary for your analysis.
