Homogenizing Systems

Homogenizing Systems Homogenization is a fluid mechanical process that involves the subdivision of particles into micron size to create a stable dispersion or emulsion for further processing. The three main types to consider when looking for the right homogenizer for your lab are: pressure, mechanical and ultrasonic homogenizers. They range in size from small handheld homogenizers to large industrial size homogenizers. Examples of homogenizers are: High Shear Homogenizer- can be used to create emulsions and suspensions, this type of homogenizer ultimately is used to produce the finest particle size in the product. High Pressure Homogenizer- are used in a variety of applications, a few examples include the food and cosmetic industry. These types of homogenizers subject fluids to high pressure and extreme acceleration. Ultrasonic Homogenizer- is an effective means to apply high shear and intense stress to liquids, powder/liquid mixtures, and slurries. Bead Mill Homogenizer- uses beads to homogenize the beads are vigorously shaken to break up tissue and disrupt cells. This type of homogenizing system is specifically designed for grinding, lysing, and homogenization of biological samples.
