Animal Temperature

Animal bodies are designed to maintain themselves at a constant optimal temperature with little deviation in order for their systems to perform properly. Thus, body temperature is considered a valuable parameter for the evaluation of the health and wellbeing of lab animals. Animal temperature sensor devices can be minimally invasive such as oral, esophageal, or anal probes, or implanted chips, or non-invasive options such as infrared or skin surface probes. They can also vary in size depending on the subject animal that is being monitored.

The size of the animal subjects will play an important role in the determination of the type and size of probe. Certain methods can have less degrees of variation, so the level of accuracy desired is also a factor in method determination.
