Chemical Ionization Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer

Chemical ionization quadrupole mass spectrometry is used to identify components in a sample. Used in environmental science, the food and beverage industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and chemistry and physics labs for analysis and quality control, quadrupole mass spectrometers are especially useful for liquid chromatography and gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Once the sample chemicals have been ionized, they are shot through a filter of four poles with differing voltages and charges. Only ions with certain mass-to-charge ratios will get through the quadrupole filter to the detector on the other side, so by varying the voltage and watching what ions come through to the detector, one can identify the molecules in the sample.

Considerations for purchasing a Chemical Ionization Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer

Chemical ionization quadrupole mass spectrometers can have different degrees of sensitivity and specificity, so determine what ranges you need before purchasing a mass spectrometer.
