Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope

A confocal laser scanning microscope, or also known as laser scanning confocal microscope, is used to obtain high resolution images and generate 3D reconstructions through direct optical sectioning to provide clear images from a range of depths of thicker specimens for nanometer level imaging and measurement. Confocal laser scanning microscopes are widely-used in cell biology, genetics, microbiology, developmental biology, clinical research, and pharmaceuticals. Several important factors for laser scanning confocal microscopes include emission wavelength, aperture of the objective, pinhole size, brightness/contrast-settings, pixel size, optical section thickness, and scanning speed.
