A Czerny-Turner configuration is a particular layout of optics in a monochromator. In this layout light is passed through an entrance slit and a curved, collimating mirror reflects the light, focusing it and bouncing it to a reflective gradient surface that disperses the light into a series of light bands, and a final mirror then diffracts the light into separate monochromatic rays that pass through the exit slit that allows only specific wavelengths to pass through. When used in a spectrometer, the light is ultimately passed through the sample and changes in wavelength quantity are detected and recorded. Czerny-Turner monochromators are the most common spectrometer configuration, offering good resolution and sensing length.
