Hematology Controls

Hematology controls are used to assess the precision of instruments such as hematology analyzers, thereby ensuring valid patient results and fulfilling accreditation requirements. The controls are commonly found in the clinical diagnostics laboratory.

What Are Different Types of Hematology Controls?

Hematology controls are available in low, normal, and high levels, including bilevel and trilevel versions, and are designed to closely resemble patient samples. Reticulocyte controls, sedimentation controls, and controls with assayed values for manual procedures are also available, as well as differential controls for three-part and five-part differential analysis. Dozens of blood parameters may be covered, including basophils, hematocrit, hemoglobin, lymphocytes, granulocytes, and nucleated red blood cells.
