As PCR and other laboratory assays become increasingly automated, there is an increased need for uniform well plates.). Microtiterplates are convenient, high-throughput tools for organizing tissue culture, PCR tests (such as HIV screening), or immunological assays such as ELISA, RIA, and FIA.. Other applications for PCR plates include analysis of enzyme reactions and compound identification by colorimetric or spectroscopic analysis. A classic microtiter plate or PCR plate will have 96 or 384 wells, but a plate can feature up to 1536 wells. Flat, round, or V-bottomed microtiter plates or PCR plates are available. PCR plates and microtiter plates are typically manufactured from virgin polypropylene plastic, making them resistant to phenols and chloroform. Variations of microtiter plates/PCR plates include deep-well or glass-bottomed types.
