Xanthine is synthesized from guanine in the presence of enzyme guanine deaminase. Xanthine oxidase catalyzes the production of xanthine from hypoxanthine and its subsequent breakdown to uric acid.Xanthine derivatives are present in coffee, tea and cocoa seeds.
