β-Butyrolactone undergoes ring opening polymerization in the presence of ethoxy-bridged dinuclear indium catalyst to yield biodegradable polyester poly(hydroxybutyrate). Polymerization of racemic β-butyrolactone in the presence of chiral initiators has been reported.
