Extinction Coefficient: 2.51 Lysozyme occurs in specific granules of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes and takes part in the antibacterial activity of the leukocytes. It hydrolyzes beta-1,4 links between N-acetylmuramic acid or 2-acetamido-2deoxy-D-glucose residues in mucopolysacchride, mucopolypeptide or chitin. Activity: 30,000 Sugar units per mg. One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that digest powdered cells of Micrococcus lysodeikticus, causing a decrease in absorbancy of 0.001 per minute at 37oC, pH 7.0. Prepared from whole blood shown to be non reactive for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2 by FDA-required tests
