An amphetamine that increases extracellular NE and DA with potencies similar to D-amphetamine (EC50s of 22.2 and 7.2 nM for NE and 44.1 and 8.0 nM for DA, respectively); more potent than D-amphetamine in release of 5-HT (EC50s = 53.4 and 1,756 nM, for 4-MA and D-amphetamine, respectively); found as a contaminant in amphetamine; associated with severe intoxication and fatalities
