The Cytospin is a great tool for preparing microscopy slides. It is a type of centrifuge that takes a cell suspension loaded in a funnel and deposits the cells into a precise circular area for easy viewing. Because the cells are concentrated into a small area, few cells are needed. I routinely prepare good specimens with 30-40,000 cells. Once the cells have been deposited onto the slide, they can be stained/fixed as desired using standard methods such as Diff Quik. This device is easy to operate and clean and requires minimal maintenance. The benchtop space required is slightly more than a typical microcentrifuge.
