We used BioSpec 0.1 mm glass beads for mechanical lysis of Enterococcus faecium cells using the FastPrep-24™ 5G Homogenizer to extract proteins for downstream Western blot analysis. We chose this product due to its optimal bead size for efficient disruption of Gram-positive bacterial cell walls and its compatibility with high-speed homogenizers. The goal was to obtain high-quality protein lysates for studying cell wall hydrolase expression. I would recommend this product for bacterial lysis applications. Pros include effective and reproducible lysis and ease of use; the main con is that bead reuse is limited in sterile workflows.
