Quantachrome Instruments to Participate in COPS IX as Main Sponsor and Exhibitor, and with Contributions from Chief Scientist

Boynton Beach, Florida, February 8, 2011 - Quantachrome Instruments announces its support of, and participation in, a major materials science conference, the 9th International Symposium on the Characterisation of Porous Solids (COPS IX), to be held in Dresden during June, 2011.

Quantachrome Instruments is pleased to be the Main Sponsor of COPS IX the 9th International Symposium on the Characterisation of Porous Solids organized by DECHEMA. Porous materials have generated an enormous impact in catalysis, gas separation, and life science applications. Characterization of such solids is a key element when designing porous materials for specific uses, so the aim of this conference is to bring experts from academia and industry together in order to discuss latest developments in characterization methods, materials, and applications.

Quantachrome's Director of Applied Science, Dr Matthias Thommes, will not only present an important status report on the new IUPAC taskgroup on physisorption of gases, but is also co-author of a further two oral presentations, co-author of three poster presentations, and will chair one of the symposium sessions. Quantachrome Instruments will also be exhibiting its latest gas sorption analyzer, the Autosorb-iQ, which with its high specifications, automation and multi-sample capability is redefining gas sorption measurements in the field of porous materials characterization. Quantachrome is delighted to be able to make these leadership commitments to this important conference which runs from June 5 through June 8, 2011.

The COPS Symposium Series has been concerned with fundamental and applied research on the characterization of the structure of porous materials, and the relationship between structure and material performance since the first symposium in the series was held in Bad Soden, Germany, in 1987. The scope includes experimental characterization methods such as X-Ray diffraction, NMR, adsorption, mercury intrusion, and calorimetry; theoretical and simulation methods used to interpret experimental data, such as molecular simulation, classical and statistical mechanical theory, and pore network modeling; and applied research on the impact of measured material properties on performance in applications.

IUPAC, The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, has long been recognized as the world authority on chemical nomenclature, terminology, standardized methods for measurement, atomic weights and many other critically evaluated data and serves to advance the worldwide aspects of the chemical sciences and to contribute to the application of chemistry in the service of Mankind. As a scientific, international, non-governmental and objective body, IUPAC can address many global issues involving the chemical sciences.

The DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e. V. (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology) is a non-profit scientific and technical society based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It has more than 5,500 private and institutional members, among them scientists, engineers, companies, organizations and institutes. One aim of DECHEMA is to promote and support research and technological progress in Chemical Technology and Biotechnology . DECHEMA regards itself as interface between science, economy, state and public.
