Bee Pollen: A Potent Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Boosting Medicine

Not all bee pollens are created equal, plant source and origin are both key factors in determining the nutritional potency for each bee pollen variety. Bee pollen composition consists of approximately 250 substances including vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, lipids, amino acids and micronutrients.

Bee pollen is created by pollen collected from various species of bees. Once collected, the pollen is mixed with the bee’s secretions in their salivary glands. It is then collected in honeycomb cells where it is covered with a honey and wax layer. The product is referred to as “Bee Bread” and undergoes anaerobic fermentation.

Previous studies have shown bee pollen displayed therapeutic potential in cardio and neuroprotection. Additionally, there is evidence to suggest potent detoxifying and anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase.

Pollen extract boasts a robust antibiotic and antiviral activity due to the flavonoids and phenolic acids present in its chemical composition. Its antiallergy activity is a result of its ability to protect mast cells from degranulation that is from releasing histamine.
