Liquid Quality Controls

Quality controls in liquid format eliminate the need for reconstitution, a necessary step with lyophilized, or freeze-dried, controls. Liquid controls are used in clinical chemistry labs, research organizations, diagnostic manufacturers, and in point-of-care testing to detect deviations in reagents or analyzers, thus ensuring the accuracy of test results. Liquid controls may be assayed or unassayed, human or bovine, and may cover a single analyte or over 100 parameters, including proteins, cardiac markers, CRP, lipids, blood gases, immunoassays, and electrophoresis. Controls with target values for an array of hormones and therapeutic drugs, tumor marker controls, and urine and urinalysis controls are also available.

What to Consider When Choosing a Liquid Quality Control?

Generally, liquid-format controls have a two-year unopened shelf life, and may be liquid frozen at –20 °C or liquid stable at +2–8 °C. Eliminating reconstitution saves time and minimizes the risk of pipetting errors.
