Polypropylene Fume Hood

The fume hood is an important piece of laboratory safety equipment designed to protect personnel and the environment from toxic fumes by drawing air from a contained area. The lining material of a fume hood confers its containment properties and polypropylene offers many advantages in this regard. Some of these include its impermeability, durability, and resistance to corrosion. For this reason, polypropylene fume hoods are recommended for most applications. When purchasing a polypropylene fume hood, some factors to consider include the size of the hood—most common sizes run from 3-8 feet, whether your lab has ducting capabilities or if a ductless model is needed, whether a constant volume or variable air volume exhaust system will be used, the material and operating speed of the blower, sash height, and the benchtop material. After purchase, fume hoods require regular maintenance and adherence to safety guidelines; always be sure to follow manufacturer instructions to ensure maximum safety.
