High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems are used to analyze and/or purify liquid mixtures. Analytical HPLC systems are used in the food safety, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries, as well as in medical and research laboratories. Two of the most common types of analytical HPLC systems are normal phase HPLC and reversed phase HPLC. Normal phase uses a polar stationary phase and a non-polar mobile phase to separate components of a mixture, while reversed phase HPLC uses phases with the opposite polarities of normal phase HPLC. The sample liquid is mixed with the mobile phase and run through a column that contains the stationary phase. The way the sample moves through the column is the basis for the analysis.
Considerations for purchasing an Analytical HPLC System
To determine which analytic HPLC system is the best fit for your lab, decide which features will be needed. Multi-solvent or multi-column analysis, stationary phase pore size, possible pump pressures, possible flow rates, and number of wavelength detectors are all factors that can vary.

| Description | The AZURA 1240 bar UHPLC System is KNAUER's high-end analytical platform designed for the most challenging separations. Operating at pressures up to 1240 bar (18,000 psi) with a binary gradient pump delivering flow rates from 0.001 to 5 mL/min, the system provides ultra-precise, pulsation-free The AZURA 1240 bar UHPLC System is KNAUER's high-end analytical platform designed for the most challenging separations. Operating at pressures up to 1240 bar (18,000 psi) with a binary gradient pump delivering flow rates from 0.001 to 5 mL/min, the system provides ultra-precise, pulsation-free eluent delivery for excellent signal-to-noise ratios — making it the ideal front-end for MS coupling. The autosampler accommodates 108 standard HPLC vials (or up to 1,560 vials with the optional liquid handler) with sample loop volumes from 1 µL to 5,000 µL. Automatic column selection for up to 8 columns with integrated eluent pre-heating and a column thermostat range of 5–85 °C (±0.1 °C) ensure maximum reproducibility. Compatible with ClarityChrom, Chromeleon, OpenLab, and KNAUER Mobile Control software, this system is recommended for laboratories requiring the lowest detection limits, highest resolution, and fastest analysis speed.... Operating at up to 862 bar, it is fully compatible with sub-2 µm particle columns and can be upgraded to an ultra-low dispersion chromatography (ULDC)The AZURA 862 bar Analytical HPLC System is KNAUER's most popular and flexible modular HPLC platform, designed to support daily analytical workflows. Operating at up to 862 bar, it is fully compatible with sub-2 µm particle columns and can be upgraded to an ultra-low dispersion chromatography (ULDC) configuration for maximum peak resolution. The system supports binary, quaternary gradient, or isocratic solvent delivery and features highly sensitive LightGuide UV flow cells with ultra-low carry-over (<0.0003% chlorhexidine). Injection modes include full loop, partial loop, or microliter pick-up from 0.1 to 5,000 µL. An integrated column switching solution accommodates up to 4 columns plus bypass. Detector options include UV/Vis (VWD, MWD, DAD), refractive index, fluorescence, ELSD, and MS, with software compatibility for ClarityChrom, Chromeleon, OpenLab, and Mobile Control. The AZURA 862 holds the lowest environmental impact rating in the ACT (Analytical Chemistry Tool) database, reflecting KNAUER's commitment to sustainable laboratory practices.... Read More | The AZURA HTQC (High-Throughput Quality Control) UHPLC System is purpose-built for pharmaceutical QC laboratories where high sample throughput and validated, reproducible results are critical. Operating at up to 1240 bar, the system combines fast UHPLC separations with an intelligent "Prep-ahead" The AZURA HTQC (High-Throughput Quality Control) UHPLC System is purpose-built for pharmaceutical QC laboratories where high sample throughput and validated, reproducible results are critical. Operating at up to 1240 bar, the system combines fast UHPLC separations with an intelligent "Prep-ahead" function and offline column re-equilibration in backflush mode — a key innovation that increases sample throughput by at least 30% by eliminating idle time between analytical runs. A dedicated second binary gradient pump handles independent column reconditioning while the primary pump continues analyzing. The Robotic Cooler stores up to 390 sample vials or six well plates at 4–40 °C, and the Liquid Handler LH 8.1 provides precision and speed for automated sample introduction. An innovative column switching and backflushing valve enables a new level of automation. The system is compatible with all common HPLC detectors including MS/MS, making it suitable for the most demanding pharmaceutical quality control workflows.... Read More |
