A gel permeation chromatograph (GPC) is used to separate the components of a sample by size, this is known as size-exclusion chromatography (SEC).
GPC systems are widely used to analyze polymers and proteins in manufacturing, chemistry, and biology labs for quality control and analysis. GPC systems are composed of porous beads (the gel) inside a column, a pump to move the sample and eluent through the column, and a detector to detect when different analytes are eluted through the column. The detectors can be concentration sensitive or molecular weight sensitive.
Each gel permeation system has a range of sizes it can detect based on the pore sizes of the beads in the column, so before deciding on a system make sure you know the parameters you need. There are different types of porous beads that have varying affinities for materials and it is best for the gel to have a low affinity for the material you wish to analyze.

| Description | GPC-QC is a compact, high-temperature GPC instrument for quality control in polyolefin manufacturing lines. The instrument has a simple and reliable approach that provides robust and precise Molar Mass Distribution for process control.
GPC-QC provides highly significant data in the production of GPC-QC is a compact, high-temperature GPC instrument for quality control in polyolefin manufacturing lines. The instrument has a simple and reliable approach that provides robust and precise Molar Mass Distribution for process control.
GPC-QC provides highly significant data in the production of complex multiple reaction products because it measures the whole Molar Mass Distribution in an accurate and fast manner.
GPC-QC delivers the complete MMD curve for one sample through a simplified workflow, while keeping a fully automated sample preparation and an analysis free of manual solvent handling throughout the entire process. The complete analysis takes 30 minutes including dissolution.
The Infrared Detector (IR) detection is highly stable, contributing to the overall reliability of the instrument. The IR detector also provides simultaneous chemical composition information, which is key for controlling the production of heterogeneous resins.
The instrument can also measure intrinsic viscosity by means of a built-in dual-capillary viscometer that can be incorporated as an additional feature.
Important applications for GPC-QC are: - Pilot plants.
- Plant start-ups.
- Monitoring grade changes in multi-reactor processes.
- Monitoring the microstructure of pipe resins.
- Processors’ laboratories.
Features - Full automation of the entire analytical process.
- One sample analyzed in 30 minutes including dissolution.
- Optional incorporation of a dual-capillary viscometer.
- Simple and reliable design for Quality Control environments.
- Comprehensive results (MMD, SCB, IVD).
- Outstanding precision

The integrated Infrared Detection (IR) simultaneously measures the molar mass distribution and the chemical composition distribution (short-chain branching information). IR has been proven to be the best detection for PO due to the broad spectral range enabling the analysis of the carbonyl group containing copolymers, enhanced sensitivity and stability to determine molecular weight and chemical composition (SCB/1000TC). A Viscometer and Light-scattering detectors can also be coupled to the GPC-IR system for a full characterization.
GPC-IR is the only system specifically dedicated to polyolefin characterization. It addresses many of the features demanded by experienced high temperature GPC Users:- Due to its IR detection, GPC-IR helps with the identification of components in Post Consumer Recyclates (PCR), PP-PE blends, and other recycled polymers
