A hardness test is non-destructive testing methods that determines the hardness of a material by measuring the depth of the penetration from an indenter onto it. Hardness testing instruments are typically designed to preform one of the three main methods of hardness testing: Vickers, Rockwell, and Brinell hardness testing. However, some may be capable of performing more than one method with universal hardness testing machines being capable of all three.

The Shimadzu MCT-W Series micro-compression testers evaluate the strength of micro-components, micro-particles, and fine fibers used in new materials.
Features
Available Test Modes:
- Compression Testing: Force increases until either the sample ruptures or a preset load is achieved.
- Load-Unload Testing: Force is increased to a preset max load point and then reduced to a preset minimum load point. By measuring the difference in displacement between the maximum and minimum point, the recovery rate percentage of the sample is calculable.
- Cyclic Testing: Test force is repeatedly increased and decreased up to 250 times to evaluate specimen fatigue properties.

A triangular pyramid indenter with a tip angle of 115° is used as standard. This process determines dynamic changes that occur in the specimen’s resistance to deformation and enables calculation of parameters such as dynamic hardness, indentation elastic modulus, and work done during both plastic and elastic deformation.
Features include:
- Evaluation of Hardness and Material Parameters in Accordance with ISO Standard 14577-1 Annex A
- Ultra-Wide Test Force Range of 0.1 to 1,961 mN
- Accurate Assessment of Elastic Modulus
- Supports Static Indentation Testing
- Supports a Wide Range of Testing Methods

Shimadzu’s HMV-G Series of Micro Vickers hardness testers provides an operator-friendly, cost-effective solution for a wide range of testing applications. Equipped with a CCD camera for automatic length measurement, HMV-G testers provide simple, secure analysis with a minimum risk of human error. Their new G-frame design expands the workspace, dramatically improving operability while permitting effective measurement of long and large test samples. Additionally, the camera’s automatic lens switching function adjusts the lens to suit the size of the indentation. Even users with no experience can measure samples of unknown hardness easily and reliably
Features
- Electromagnetic Force Control: Indentation test force can be configured seamlessly
- Measurement Mode Settings: Users can select standard or sequential tests
- Sample shape recognition function
- Low Test Force (Optional): Tests can be performed at arbitrary test forces in the range of 1 gf to 2 kgf
Easy-to-use software controls the sequence of primary operations, including setting conditions and displaying results. One single test window shows all information necessary at a glance, making image quality adjustments easy. With the routine inspection graphs function, data can also be viewed in chronological order, so it can be used effectively for ISO17025 and ISO16949 certification.... Read More |
