Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (NCI MS / PCI MS)

Chemical ionization is a method used to ionize samples that will then be analyzed by mass spectrometry. Chemical ionization mass spectrometry is used in, among other industries, environmental science, the pharmaceutical industry, and research laboratories for quality control and research purposes. Negative chemical ionization (NCI) and positive chemical ionization (PCI) are two types of chemical ionization done to prepare for mass spectrometry. Most samples can make positive ions, but negative ions cannot be produced by any sample, so NCI is primarily used for samples that contain electronegative or acidic groups. Once ions are made from the samples, the mass spectrometer can measure their charge-to-mass ratio and provide an identifying spectrum.

Considerations for purchasing a Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer

Before purchasing a chemical ionization mass spectrometer, check the scanning rate, the size of the samples needed for analysis, the maximum sample size that can be handled, and which ionization method it uses.
