Spectrophotometers are used to measure the concentration of a known substance in a solution. They do this by passing a light through the substance and measuring light intensity as a function of wavelength. Either single beam or double beam spectrophotometers can be purchased. In a single beam spectrophotometer, a reference standard is used to measure light intensity before and after the sample is loaded. For double beam spectrophotometers the beam is split with one beam passing through the standard and the other through the sample to compare intensities. While single beam spectrophotometers are typically less expensive and have higher sensitivity, double beam spectrophotometers tend to be more stable and easier to use. Spectrophotometers are important pieces of equipment in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, clinical, and materials testing labs.

A high sensitivity PMT detector provides accurate and reproducible measurements for low to high concentration samples. By controlling the high voltage applied to the PMT, the dynode feedback offers a wider dynamic range than is generally found on uv-visible spectrophotometers. For high resolution measurements, such as gas and vapor phase spectroscopy, the spectral bandwidth can be set as narrow as 0.1 nm. Special low stray light slit settings which optimize the light image on the monochromator provide increased linearity to up to 5 absorbance units.... CD The CPL-300 Circularly Polarized Luminescence Spectrophotometer supplements the information obtained from other chiroptical techniques such as electronic or vibrational circular dichroism. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is widely used in the study of optically active substances. CD spectroscopy provides information about the structure of optically active substances in the electronic ground state, however, CPL spectroscopy provides information about excited states. The two techniques are therefore complimentary. The CPL-300 uses the original 180° fluorescence collection approach proposed by Steinberg. The standard ozone-free 150W Xe lamp can be user-replaced with an Hg/Xe source. The instrument’s unique double-prism excitation and emission monochromators offer very low stray-light and no spurious linear polarization effects caused by instruments that use diffraction gratings. These are both extremely important as CPL signals tend to be very weak.... Read More |
