GPC Laser Light Scattering Detector

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), a subset of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), is used to separate samples by size. This is most often used for analytes consisting of polymers. A laser light scattering detector can be used with GPC to measure molecular weight of the sample directly. This is done by passing a laser light through the separated sample in the column and measuring the amount of light scattered which is directly proportional to the molecular weight. GPC laser light scattering detectors can be purchased with a single detector system or with multiple detectors, such as with viscometry or concentration detectors, for readouts with additional details.
