Glove boxes are sealed containers with gloves built into their walls so that samples can be worked on while being completely separated from the outside environment. Glove boxes are used when the sample needs to be protected from contaminants, as some pharmaceutical preparations need to be, and also when the person handling the sample needs to be protected from the sample itself, like when the sample is radioactive.
