Particle Imaging Systems (Particle Shape Analysis)

Particle imaging systems use rapid digital imaging and software to determine both the sizes and shapes of particles in a material. Particle shape analysis is used in the manufacturing and testing of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food products as well as in materials science industry. Particle imaging systems record pictures of particles in dry or wet samples, then calculate the diameter, volume or more complex parameters based on the information needed.

Static particle imaging systems analyze mounted, stationary samples and offer high resolution of small particles. In dynamic particle imaging systems, particles flow by the camera (similar to a microscope) and larger sample sizes can by analyzed. Particle size limits and analysis times vary by instrument; particle imaging systems can measure sizes ranging from 0.5 um to 30 mm and particle shape analysis takes 30 seconds to 3 minutes per sample.
