This system has several unique features including a multi-deck design allowing for future updates, a coded nosepiece and magnification changer that calibrates the images for measurement purposes, a three position beam splitter for multiple display options, a camera with peak quantum efficiency >70% and a magnification changer that offers both a 1.6x lens and 2.0x lens. The included software allows for custom mapping and screening of samples with a motorized stage. Since this microscope will be used by multiple users it is important to have the flexibility of the features included to meet the various needs now and in the future and to eliminate user error. The multi-deck design allows us to swap in different modules as needs change. The multiple options for both the beam splitter and magnification changer are unique to the Olympus system. The CCD camera and software allows for calibration data to be saved with the images automatically eliminating any error in measurements of data. The software in conjunction with the automated stage allows for automated mapping and screening of a unique C1 ship that we use that is used for single isolation and imaging. Olympus provided the best pricing, value, technical specifications and the unique features outlined above for our unique C1 chip Single Cell Imaging. In addition, other labs in the department use Olympus which gives us the ability to share components between laboratories and allow for easier training for multiple users.

Here are some representative images from our IX-83 scope taken of DCIS human breast cancers. The green is staining CD44+ cells, red staining CD24, blue DAPI and yellow ALDH+ cells. Blue is a nuclear marker. These others are cancer stem cell markers of breast cancer.
