Description
Complete Safety Testing of Fully Assembled Coin CellsThe Waters TA Instruments Coin Cell Differential Scanning Calorimeter (Coin Cell DSC) enables direct thermal testing of fully constructed 2032 coin cells and any 20 mm diameter coin cell — without teardown. It combines thermal analysis, evolved gas analysis (EGA), and electrochemical signal monitoring to evaluate battery safety and performance from –80 °C to 600 °C.
- Highly sensitive sensor for accurate onset temperature measurement and characterization of complex reaction mechanisms
- Coin cell capsule maintains excellent contact with the sensor throughout the full temperature range to cell failure
- Evolved gas analysis compatible with Mass Spectrometry (MS), FTIR, or GC-MS to evaluate reaction mechanisms and off-gas composition
- Voltage monitoring supports state-of-charge, internal short-circuit, and charge/discharge cycling analysis
- Interchangeable cooling systems: Finned Air Cooling System (FACS, ambient to 600 °C) and Refrigerated Cooling System (RCS, –80 °C to 400 °C)
Dual Operating Modes- Scanning mode — assesses thermal abuse, thermal degradation, onset temperature, heat of reaction, and material cross-reaction
- Isothermal mode — evaluates heat flow during SEI formation, charge/discharge, overcharge, and overdischarge
