Hygromycin B is an aminocyclitol antibiotic which specifically inhibits protein synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes and animal cells. It is used as a cell screening antibiotic of eukaryotic cells as well as prokaryotic cells. This selection marker is used especially for transformation of plant cells.
