Description

FTIR for lube oil analysis

The eraspec oil is a stand-alone infrared analyzer designed for rapid, on-site lubricant oil analysis and predictive maintenance. Utilizing a patented, lightweight, and vibration-resistant interferometer design, it provides FTIR measurements directly on-site or in the laboratory. With its integrated pump, the eraspec oil automates sample introduction and measures contaminants, degradation products, additive depletion, and calculated properties like TAN and TBN. Its triple-cell design and automated background measurement process eliminate the need for solvents during reference scans, reducing maintenance requirements.

Key Technical Features
  • Triple-Cell Configuration: Integrates a 500 µm measurement cell, a standard 100 µm cell, and a built-in reference cell. This setup balances a broad measurement range with enhanced low-level sensitivity for detecting water, ester, and antioxidant additives at low limits of detection (LOD).
  • Dual Analysis Modes: Provides Direct Trending (calculating properties directly from absorbance when no fresh oil spectrum is available) and Spectral Subtraction (subtracting the fresh reference oil spectrum to analyze subtle changes during operation).
  • Expandable Spectral Libraries: Equipped with factory libraries for predicting properties such as TAN and TBN. Users can add customized libraries to adapt the instrument to specialized formulations or alternative parameters.
  • Automated Reference Scan: Uses the built-in reference cell to perform automatic background measurements, eliminating solvent-based background checks and maintaining operational readiness.
  • On-Screen Historical Trends: Plots historical measurement data directly on the 8.4" touchscreen, tracking engine mileage or operating hours to trace degradation or base reserve (TBN) depletion.
  • Autosampler Option: An optional, directly attached 10-position autosampler is available for higher sample throughput.

Parameter & Standard Coverage
  • Degradation: Oxidation, Nitration, Sulfation (ASTM E2412, D7414, D7415, D7624, DIN 51453, JOAP)
  • Calculated Properties: TAN (ASTM D664), TBN (ASTM D2896, D4739), Water (ASTM D6304), Aniline Point (ASTM D611) — requires customized library database
