The Fastprep bead beating grinder allows for the rapid lysis of over 30 samples of either feces, or organs from mice such as brain or lung, for quantification of bacterial loads or for extraction of RNA for further analysis. There are multiple settings / protocols to choose from for setting the speeds and pauses for grinding. This machine should be secured well though; we have had multiple incidents of samples breaking through the tubes. A major drawback of this machine was that the minimum speed of vibration is very high (4 m/s). The machine could be much more versatile and used in different contexts for sample breakdown if the machine’s speed could be reduced.
Application :
Isolation of RNA from tissue samples or isolation of bacteria from feces and tissue samples.
