Newest version of Mutation Surveyor® software delivers increased accuracy and capacity.

July 20, 2011, State College PA SoftGenetics announced availability of its latest version of Mutation Surveyor software, for the analysis of DNA Variants from Sanger Sequence reads. The new version of Mutation Surveyor software, widely used across the globe in both research and clinical applications, incorporates a new multi-step alignment technology which significantly reduces false positive rates as well as being able to process noisy data. Additionally, the single analysis batch capability has been increased from its former limit of 400 sequence traces to a massive 2000 sequence traces per analysis on a 32bit desktop Windows® computer.

Furthermore, version 4.0 will now accept mitochondrial forensic nomenclatures of INDELs; include Exon information in GBK references files; report accession numbers; align sequences across circular genomes and importantly allows the creation, saving and exporting of custom GenBank references.

“The advanced alignment technology”, indicates Product Manager Kevin LeVan, “now employed by Mutation Surveyor was designed following the review of thousands of customer sequence traces to provide a very robust analysis of SNPs, and Indels in Sanger Sequencing traces. In addition to breaking the base call into smaller seeds during the alignment process, the software employs a Mexican Hat wavelet to detect broadened peaks often mis-called or non-called called by the Basecaller. These two new technologies allow for deeper analysis of “noisy” data segments, as well as a considerably more robust alignment, reducing the false positive rate and increasing analysis accuracy. The many new reporting features have been added to meet the requests from many of our thousands of users. Version 4.0 is the end result of us listening and reacting to customers’ needs.”

The company offers 30-day trials and no cost web-based training on its genetic analysis software packages. Interested parties may request the software on the company website: www.softgenetics.com or via email: [email protected].
