Laboratories processing a range of sample types need modular equipment to handle those samples. With modularity such as adjustable tip spacing, INTEGRA’s pipettes can be adapted to accommodate liquid samples of various viscosities.
For example, during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a laboratory located in Michigan shifted its focus to COVID-19 testing from urine analysis. This presented challenges during sample preparation as COVID-19 samples are commonly saliva, a much more viscous liquid than urine.
“The new sample type and testing workflow presented a challenge, prompting us to look for different liquid handling solutions. We chose to purchase four VIAFLO 96 handheld electronic pipettes and four 8 channel VOYAGER adjustable tip spacing pipettes from INTEGRA because we needed robust and reliable systems that would allow us to consistently handle high numbers of samples and ensure the most accurate results in the shortest amount of time,” said Jacob Meyers Senior Scientist at LynxDx.
Once pandemic testing decreased, LynxDx went back to focusing on prostate cancer screening—but they are leveraging their new tools and lessons learned to speed up their workload, which is steadily increasing to pre-pandemic levels.
“We’re now planning to transfer our VIAFLO 96 pipettes over to cancer screening to help us provide fast and accurate results to clinicians, which is vital for the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer. The lab is currently performing validation of these instruments for our MPS workflows, and we’re confident they will help us to increase the quality and speed of results,” said Meyers.
