Corning Announces Availability of Shorty Stripette® Serological Pipets

Product Line Extension Provides Researchers with Enhanced Functionality and Comfort

CORNING, N.Y., January 24, 2011 -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced the addition of Costar® Shorty Stripette® Serological Pipets to complement its full range of liquid-handling products. The new pipets are 32 percent shorter than standard serological pipets, making them ideal for use in labs where space is at a premium and researchers are looking for added comfort.

“Establishing ergonomic procedures in the lab and using environmentally sensitive products continue to increase in importance,” said Maryanne DeChambeau, product manager, liquid handling, Corning Life Sciences. “Corning’s new Shorty Stripette pipets were developed to address both of these emerging trends. They are smaller than standard-sized pipets, enabling greater freedom of movement when used under the hood or in other confined spaces. They also allow for ease of use and manipulation, and use less plastic and packaging, making them more environmentally friendly than standard-sized pipets.”

Features and benefits of the new Corning Shorty Stripettes include the following:

  • 32 percent shorter than standard Stripette pipets
  • Sleek, one-piece design that reduces the possibility of particulates
  • Easy-to-read markings and printing; printed stripe magnifies the meniscus, making volume reading easier
  • Individually wrapped in paper/plastic, allowing for easier opening and reduced static cling
  • Nonpyrogenic and noncytotoxic
