Portable fume hoods, also known as ductless fume hoods, are movable enclosures with a sash that filters hazardous vapors, particles, and fumes from the lab by use of carbon and/or HEPA filters which can be chemical specific. These fume hoods can be easily move from location to location and require no installation, unlike ducted fume hoods.
It is important to note that some chemicals are not able to be filtered effectively and the types of chemicals being used are to be taken into consideration. Other considerations are filter lifespans, applications, and overall costs.
