Fused Silica Capillary Column

Capillary gas chromatography, often shortened as GC, is a well-known and widely used separation technique that employs the use of capillary columns. Fused silica columns are narrow-bore capillary columns with a polymer stationary phase coated inside, a polyimide polymer coated outside, and a layer of fused silica between the two. These columns are used commonly used in a large variety of GC and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) applications and industries such as quality control and assurance, food testing, and pharmaceuticals. When choosing a column, the selection of a stationary phase will be the most critical step, taking into consideration factors such as selectivity, phenyl content, and polarity. Other considerations include column length and the upper limit for temperature.
