Microscope Stages

Microscope Stages

The Mounting Platform of The Microscope

Specimens and samples are placed on microscope stages so they can be more easily viewed and manipulated. Stages can be operated manually or can be motorized, with ultrafast versions capable of scanning up to 250 mm/sec.

What Are Different Types of Microscope Stages?

The correct type of stage or component depends on the application:

Micromanipulators, which enable highly precise interaction with a sample, can be attached to a microscope stage for applications such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection or for use in microelectronics.

Micropositioners may feature step resolution of 0.5–1 µm.

Moving on to the nano range, nanopositioners, sometimes referred to as piezo stages, are flexure-guided stages driven by a piezoelectric actuator to produce smooth, repeatable movement with step resolution <1 nm.

Also available are thermal microscope stages, Peltier devices capable of holding specimens at temps from –20 to +100 °C.
