Ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) spectroscopy analyzes a broad range of wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum ranging from ultraviolet to near-infrared. A UV VIS NIR spectrometer is often used to analyze and determine the optical properties of a material and are available in a single-beam and double-beam configuration. Both beam configurations are capable of analyzing solid as well as liquid samples. Three types of spectrometer light sources are available for UV-vis-NIR spectrometers, deuterium lamps, tungsten halogen lamps, and xenon flash lamps. Xenon flash lamps eliminate the need for a second light source as they emit light across a wide spectrum. Xenon flash lamps also have a very long operational life since they only emit light briefly during sample analysis, making them a great choice for analyzing samples susceptible to photobleaching. Often used in the life sciences industry, pharmaceutical industry, petrochemical industry, and various other industries, UV-vis-NIR spectrometers are available in modular configurations allowing you to add accessories to increase throughput, accuracy, and repeatability in your analysis.
