For the first time ever, Pittcon 2021 is being held virtually this week due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This year will feature an impressive lineup of presenters, poster sessions, and short courses in their virtual format. Key applications covered will be in bioanalytics, forensics, cannabis, energy, life science, environmental science and pharmaceuticals. Of those presenting, special keynote speakers include Joseph Powell, Richard Yost, Chris Welch, and Laurne Zarzar. As usual, Pittcon, even in its virtual format, presents the opportunity to showcase many industry-leading products. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from this year's conference.
HORIBA Scientific
High sensitivity specifications at 32,000:1 signal to noise ratio for Raman band of water using the FSD (Square Root) method. This is the longest focal length monochromators at 350 mm for single monochromators, and 700 mm for double monochromators. Detection capabilities ensure some of the lowest possible concentrations of fluorescence. Accessories include the PLQY integrating spheres for UV to NIR PLQY, polarizers, sample holders, Peltier cuvette holders, microliter sample cuvettes, Dewars, temperature baths, cryostats and microscopes.
Shimadzu
Shimadzu’s Nexera QX Multiplex LC-MS/MS utilizes multiplexing technology for sample introduction streams, enabling continuous operation of the mass spectrometer. Their dedicated software provides an automated single point of control for multiple UHPLC streams and the mass spectrometer for a multiplexed workflow. This software simplifies valve switching, gradient control and injection timing and can execute automatic flushing from dedicated pumps.
Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC
This compact microscope is used for digital teaching and routine lab work. The Primostar 3 relies on its easy interface for an outstanding user experience.
Park Systems
The Park NX12 platform is designed for analytical chemistry and electrochemistry researchers and multi-user facilities. This Inverted Optical Microscope (IOM) based SPM platform is for SICM, SECM, and SECCM, in addition to Atomic Force Microscopy.
Global Market Connection, Ltd.
Advance production, copying, and copies for fingerprint identification. This system is portable, and to be used at the crime scene, or in the laboratory.
Fritsch Milling & Sizing
This dispersion unit provides automatic evaluation and possesses a measuring time of usually less than 1 minute. Micro with a measuring range of 0.5 – 1500 μm with an extra-wide measuring range of 0.01 – 3800 μm for maximum precision and sensitivity. Easy to operate and offers rapid analysis times, reliably reproducible results and the recording of additional parameters such as temperature and pH value during wet dispersion.
ELGA LabWater
PURELAB Quest delivers three types of laboratory water. The system provides a reliable supply of type I water for applications, such as HPLC and molecular biology techniques, type II water for general reagent preparations and buffers, and type III water for glassware rinsing and water baths.
Miele Professional USA
Miele Professional's PG 8583 is a laboratory glassware washer with DI water connection, liquid dispensing and EcoDry function. The machine can wash up to 128 laboratory flasks per cycle.
Organomation
Oganomation’s new Teflon-free option enhances its nitrogen blowdown evaporators for sample preparation. The Teflon-free models use a PTFE-free sealant instead of Teflon tape to seal the threads of the gas fittings, eliminating potential contamination from fluoropolymers.
Beckman Coulter Life Sciences
Routine environmental monitoring in GMP cleanrooms requires intensive processes that are prone to error. Typically involving the collection of thousands of samples every month, with technicians having to configure the particle counter at every sample location according to SOPs, and manually transcribe the results from paper print-outs into a computer. Not surprisingly, this process is prone to human error that can ultimately result in data integrity issues. The MET ONE 3400 Portable Air Particle Counter offers users the chance to reduce human error and enhance their portable air particle quantification.
