Allylix Wins 2012 Fifi Technological Breakthrough of the Year Award

San Diego Specialty Chemicals Company Wins International Award for Technological Breakthroughs in Fragrance Ingredients, Creation and Testing

SAN DIEGO – Allylix Inc., a San Diego-based specialty chemicals company, received the 2012 FiFi Technological Breakthrough of the Year award in the Fragrance Ingredients, Creation and Testing sub-category at the World Perfumery Congress in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on June 14.

The FiFi awards, known as the “Oscars of the fragrance world,” were conceived in 1973 to acknowledge and honor creativity in fragrances, and have since become an icon for the global fragrance industry.

The Fragrance Foundation partnered with Perfumer & Flavorist to redefine this year’s FiFi award categories to reflect the new technological advances that have helped move the fragrance industry forward. The Fragrance Ingredients, Creation and Testing category is meant to recognize innovations in production, formulation, testing, and methods of ingredient extraction, new ingredients, and sustainability efforts as they relate to ingredients.

“It is an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious entity for our platform for fermentation production of terpene-based fragrance materials,” said Allylix CEO Carolyn Fritz. “Our technology represents a true breakthrough and brings stability and consistency of supply for popular flavors and fragrances.”

Allylix’s propriety fermentation technology platform allows it to produce a variety of high-value terpenes and other specialty chemicals across different industries at low cost with sustainable supply.

The company is currently producing two compounds in commercial quantities: nootkatone and valencene. Allylix recently announced the development of a novel fragrance material called Epivone™.
