Application Notes Available for Bruker EVOQ with a Focus on Food Testing, Sports Medicine and Toxicology

November 28, 2012: Bruker Chemical and Applied Markets (CAM), Fremont, California, US: Following Bruker¹s recent introduction of the EVOQ liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) four Application Notes have been released. The Application Notes examine the advantages of performing routine analyses on the Bruker EVOQ in areas such as the quantitation of chloramphenicol in milk, dermorphin detection in equine urine, clenbuterol in equine plasma and how to save time during bioanalyses. The Application Notes are available at bit.ly/BCA358 for free download.

Clenbuterol in Equine Plasma A Study of Superior Ion Source Robustness and High Sensitivity Without the Use of a Divert Valve This application note demonstrates sustained high-sensitivity performance of the EVOQ Elite LC-TQ under repeated exposure to horse plasma samples. Clenbuterol in crashed horse plasma was injected (dilute-and-shoot) without the use of a divert valve. Four calibration curves were analyzed, distributed at the beginning, two bracketing the middle, and one at the end of the series. The success criterion was to achieve <10% relative standard deviation (%RSD) for the response factor for the four calibration curves dispersed within 500 horse plasma samples. A response factor %RSD of <5% (4.38%) was achieved using the EVOQ Elite  LC-TQ.

Quantitative Analysis of Chloramphenicol in Milk Using the EVOQ Qube

The EVOQ Qube LC-MS/MS method operated in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode has been developed for detecting and confirming trace levels of chloramphenicol in milk matrix with minimal sample preparation. Three MRM transitions were used, one for quantification and two for qualification. The limit of quantification (LOQ) for chloramphenicol was 0.02 ppb with consistent ratios for the qualification ions. The calibration curve from 0.02 ppb to 1.0 ppb spiked in milk matrix is linear with R2 = 0.9980.

The Analysis of Dermorphin, an Opioid Peptide in Equine Plasma using the EVOQ Elite

Dermorphin, a naturally occurring hepta-peptide, is a potent analgesic approximately 40x more potent than morphine and a Class I prohibited substance in horse racing. Dermorphin was quantified in equine plasma using solid phase extraction cleanup. The linear dynamic range of the assay was 0.5-1000ng/mL and was easily achieved on the EVOQ Elite LC-TQ.

Meredith Conoley, Bruker CAM Marketing Director explained that "The EVOQ LC-MS/MS was designed to provide game changing performance for laboratories involved in high throughput quantitation. Innovation in both hardware and software has yielded revolutionary technology, like Active Exhaust, IQ dual ion funnel, the VIP-HESI, and the new PACER software, meaning that EVOQ can offer advantages to any laboratory conducting routine analysis in water and environmental testing, food, forensics, toxicology, sport medicine and discovery PK." Conoley went on to comment that, "these application notes demonstrate the EVOQ's outstanding capability to work under really tough conditions in demanding laboratories with sustained high-sensitivity".
