Malvern Instruments Presents Economic Benefits of Real-time Particle Sizing at APACT 13

19 March 2013: Malvern, UK: Malvern Instruments will deliver a presentation on the benefits of real-time particle sizing and its proven capacity to enhance production economics, at this year's Advances in Process Analytics and Control Technology (APACT) conference, which takes place from 24 -26 April in Chester, UK. The presentation will cover the techniques of laser diffraction particle sizing and spatial filter velocimetry, focusing on the proven potential of both to improve process efficiency and cut variable costs by, for example reducing waste, minimizing energy consumption and increasing throughput.

Malvern Instruments Insitec laser diffraction particle sizing system

Manufacturers across a number of industries share the need to control particle size and particle size distribution in order to optimize product performance. Particle size may, for example, directly influence the reactivity of a catalyst, the stability of a foodstuff, or the bioavailability of a drug. The presentation will explore the reasons for incorporating real-time particle sizing technology within a manufacturing process and will provide examples that illustrate typical economic gains.

Malvern's Insitec is a laser diffraction particle sizing system for the continuous analysis of wet or dry process streams with particles in the size range 0.1 to 2500 microns. The Parsum probe on the other hand, uses spatial filter velocimetry to deliver in situ, real-time size and velocity measurements for solid particles in the size range 50 to 6000 microns, suspended in a pneumatic or gravity flow gas stream. Both systems are designed specifically for process application and deliver high reliability, 24/7, with minimal maintenance, providing a secure platform for process monitoring and a datastream for automated control.

About Malvern Instruments

Malvern provides the materials and biophysical characterization technology and expertise that enables scientists and engineers to understand and control the properties of dispersed systems. These systems range from proteins and polymers in solution, particle and nanoparticle suspensions and emulsions, through to sprays and aerosols, industrial bulk powders and high concentration slurries. Used at all stages of research, development and manufacturing, Malvern's materials characterization instruments provide critical information that helps accelerate research and product development, enhance and maintain product quality and optimize process efficiency.

Our products reflect Malvern's drive to exploit the latest technological innovations and our commitment to maximizing the potential of established techniques. They are used by both industry and academia, in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals to bulk chemicals, cement, plastics and polymers, energy and the environment.

Malvern systems are used to measure particle size, particle shape, zeta potential, protein charge, molecular weight, mass, size and conformation, rheological properties and for chemical identification, advancing the understanding of dispersed systems across many different industries and applications.
