Newport Introduces Low-Cost Handheld Optical Power Meter and New Series of Thermopile Sensors

Irvine, CA – May 10, 2013 – Newport Corporation, a worldwide leader in photonic solutions, introduces the highly economic 843-R handheld optical power meter. Housed in an ergonomically designed compact body with rubber bumpers and kickstand, the 843-R is capable of measuring laser energy and power levels from pJoules and pWatts up to thousands of Watts. Values are displayed on a clear, backlit TFT 320 x 240 display together with either a bar graph or a high resolution simulated analog needle. The 843-R power meter is fully compatible with Newport’s 818, 918D, 819C/D Series photodiodes and our new 919P Series thermopile sensors. In combination with a thermopile sensor, the 843-R is capable of single shot energy pulse measurement.

Simple configuration of measurement parameters and the ability to hot-swap sensors enables users of the 843-R to take measurements quickly, even with multiple sensors. The power meter operates on a rechargeable battery or while connected to an AC source.

Newport’s 919P Series of thermopile sensors is a perfect complement to the new 843-R power meter for measuring the power of both CW and pulsed lasers. The 919P is insensitive to beam position and offers a broadband, spectrally flat response from 0.19 – 11 µm with a maximum power range up to 5,000 W. NIST-traceable calibration is also included.
