Siemens Puts Microbiology Automation in Action at ASM 2013

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is putting the full breadth of its advanced microbiology automation portfolio into action at the upcoming American Society of Microbiology (ASM) General Meeting, Denver, May 19 – 21 (Booth #101). Designed to help visitors see first-hand how Siemens’ advanced solutions help maximize microbiology workflow efficiency, the exhibit experience includes automation demonstrations every half hour throughout the show.

“Finding new ways to streamline operations while still delivering high quality results remains a critical focus of today’s busy microbiology laboratories,” said Jim McMenamin, vice president, Microbiology and Molecular business unit, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “Siemens is excited to showcase our latest end-to-end innovative microbiology automation capabilities at this year’s ASM and help visitors explore their laboratory’s full workflow potential.”

Featured are the Copan WASP®: Walk Away Specimen Processor and WASPLab™ System¹, a barcode-driven, conveyor-connected specimen processing device employing robotic plate management and image analysis, along with the Bruker MALDI Biotyper² System for faster, more accurate and cost-effective microorganism identification compared to current methods³. Also highlighted is the LabPro-MBT4, a middleware platform that seamlessly integrates data from the Bruker system and panel data from Siemens’ MicroScan® WalkAway® System, which includes automated susceptibility results known for detecting emerging bacterial resistance. Attendees can also observe the Siemens Tissue Preparation Solution in-action, the first fully automated method for extracting DNA and RNA from formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue samples.
