Frickenhausen, 20 June 2013 - As a technology partner for the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries, Greiner Bio-One has unveiled its CELLreactor in a new size. Previously available in 50 ml format, the tubes can now be purchased in 15 ml format, too. This new development further improves the flexibility of working volumes. The filter top tubes are made of polypropylene and are ideal as small bioreactors for the cultivation of suspension cells and bacteria.
The CELLreactor enables the miniaturisation of large-scale setups while simultaneously maximising the number of parallel experiments. Thanks to the six holes in the cap, the CELLreactor can be used for the expansion of cells and aerobic microorganisms, such as bacteria and yeast. It is also suitable for use with substances that require gas exchange during storage. With a pore size of 0.2 µm, the PTFE-coated USP Class VI-certified capillary pore membrane ensures the sterility of the tube and enables excellent gas exchange. Individual openings can be closed to reduce the ventilation as required.
Liquids are mixed using standard laboratory shakers. This eliminates the need for internal stirrers, which can lead to the formation of foam and cellular shearing forces. Due to its conical design, the tube fits into all standard 15 ml centrifuge rotors and the cells can be sedimented directly within the culture tube. This eliminates the need for time-consuming transfer to other cell culture tubes for the cell harvest. The transparent tubes have an easy-to-read scale and labelling field.
CELLreactor is part of the CELLSTAR product line from Greiner Bio-One.
