Irvine, CA – July 16, 2013 – Newport Corporation, a worldwide leader in photonic solutions extends its portfolio of achromatic quartz-MgF2 wave plates. The new wave plates have been optimized for the Spectra-Physics Insight™ laser and other widely tunable ultrafast lasers. The 10RP52-4 and 10RP54-4 are designed for a very broad wavelength range of 650-1350 nm with either λ/2 or λ/4 retardations. Safely enclosed in a one inch diameter black anodized aluminum housing, both new zero-order wave plates provide a clear aperture of 12 mm.
“Newport’s achromatic quartz-MgF2 zero-order wave plates provide a much higher degree of retardation accuracy than regular zero-order quartz wave plates”, says Newport’s optics product manager Anna Sansan Wang. “Compared to the single wavelength performance of zero-order quartz wave plates, achromatic quartz-MgF2 wave plates operate over a broader wavelength range. They are an ideal solution for demanding ultrafast applications.”
The two birefringent crystals feature a highly efficient broadband antireflection coating in an air-space design. This construction ensures excellent transmitted wavefront quality, while minimizing beam deviation and surface reflection losses. Because of the air-space design, Newport’s achromatic zero-order quartz-MgF2 wave plates have a higher damage threshold than achromatic polymer film wave plates.
As ultrafast amplifiers evolve to higher and higher powers, there is a need for larger diameter optics with broadband performance. Newport also addresses this need with larger diameter achromatic zero-order quartz-MgF2 wave plates with 1.5 inch diameter housings, 30 mm clear aperture and a wavelength range of 700-1000 nm.
