Siemens Unveils New Connectivity Options for VersaCell System – An Intelligent Sample Management Solution

Compact robotic laboratory automation device now connects to multiple Dimension® series analyzers

Tarrytown, NY, May 19, 2011 – Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics announced today that its VersaCell System, an intelligent sample management solution, is now compatible with multiple Dimension® series analyzers, including the Dimension EXL 200, Siemens’ newly released integrated chemistry system designed specifically for lower-volume clinical laboratories. Now, more laboratories can take advantage of VersaCell automation, which connects up to two stand-alone instruments in versatile configurations, enabling it to intelligently route, sort, and prioritize samples for consolidated chemistry and/or immunoassay testing.

“We know from talking to our customers that labs are continually looking for ways to do more with less, maximize throughput, and deliver critical results back to clinicians on time as an aid in early diagnosis,” said Dave Hickey, CEO, Chemistry, Immunoassay, Automation, and Diagnostics IT Business Unit, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “By adding Dimension integrated systems to our connectivity portfolio for VersaCell, we help extend the access of automated technologies to laboratories in search of new ways to improve workflow and remain responsive to the growing needs of the clinicians they help support.”

As testing needs evolve, laboratories of all sizes and volume levels continue to rely on flexible automation solutions that can not only deliver efficiency gains through workflow consolidation, but also grow and adapt to an ever-changing lab environment. The Siemens VersaCell System is uniquely positioned to address this need by delivering automatic routing functionality, via a robotic arm, that eliminates time-consuming and error-prone pre-analytical sorting. At the same time, VersaCell provides high through-put instrument connectivity options configurable to each lab’s preference, space, and budget.

Now, Dimension EXL 200, Dimension EXL with LM, and Dimension RxL Max® customers can join ADVIA® Chemistry, ADVIA Centaur®, and IMMULITE® family users in enjoying VersaCell’s benefits as they rely on a solution to help them finish testing on time, manage large sample peaks, and provide predictable Turn-Around-Time for time-critical results analysis. VersaCell also delivers special features available to all users, including a new post-analytical sorting capability that organizes tubes according to workflow steps and a new archiving functionality designed for refrigerated storage.
